Joining You:

I'm gonna address this issue head on...

Looking at the lyrics printed on her CD this is clearly neither my name nor is it any kind of reference. The obvious choice would have been the alcohol breath reference (from Sympathetic Character) but that is obviously a joke on her part.

Her: Do you want another beer? I don't mind doing things for you.

Me: Sure. Get yourself one if you want.

Her: No, one of us has to keep a clear head.

(Good point, beautiful!)

That having been said I like the obvious reflection analogy. She is, of course, a poet and she knows it!

When I remember Whats-her-name I believe it will always be of me sitting in the grass at my grandfathers house sipping a beer while she would dance and whirl in the moonlight, stepping in and out of the light shining through the open window like it were a spotlight, singing along with the top 40 radio station I managed to find and trying to pull me up on "stage" with her while I reminded her I make a better audience than performer.

Not the Doctor:

OKay, she's done it again (see above). While the Joining You reference is obviously the word 'we,' this is clearly 'the.' Nevertheless I'll get nowhere waiting for her to be any clearer (perhaps my constant making fun of her accent has put her off for good) so I may as well get on with it and address what can only be another request for attention followed almost immediately by her talking about someone else.

I believe the dark, brooding, high spirited (another contradiction, I know) female she appears to be is not a gimmick or persona but more of her reasoning her way through life. She has a fascinating train of thought and she does not mind being in two places at the same time, meatphysically or morissettely speaking. Of course, now she manages to be everywhere at once (being an artist and a professional) which can only be more of a tetrahydron (hydra?) for her than some kid from the reservation like me could be. (I probably should have looked that word up, well, feel free to leave me a nasty message for yet another attack on the English language.)

You Learn:

The reason I've included this track is that in her video 'Jagged Little Pill Live' she dedicates this song to either 'Lee' or 'you' depending on how closely your listening (and a few other factors). It's one of the better songs from one of the better albums of the 90's.

My take: yes.
